Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says tax-related identity theft claims are on the rise. Zoeller says his office has gotten almost two-dozen complaints from Indiana residents.
They claim thieves have gotten ahold of their personal information which they used to file tax returns and claim refunds. Zoeller says the number of complaints this year tops those received in all of 2011. Zoeller says the jump in cases may be due to the Internal Revenue Service doing a better job at detecting and reporting suspicious activity.
