IU Uncovers Shipwrecks, History In The Dominican Republic

Indiana University's Underwater Science Program has established three living underwater museums in the Dominican Republic using 17th century and 18th century shipwrecks, and is seeking to establish new museums throughout the island country.

Researchers say the museums provide the opportunity for sustainable tourism and excavation sites are giving scientists and anthropologists insight into a part of history that involved Columbus, pirates and Spanish conquistadors.

On Noon Edition, we’ll talk to some of the program’s researchers to learn about their most recent discoveries.

Noon Edition airs Friday’s at 12:06 p.m.
