Auditor Responds To Concerns About Missing Money

The City of Bloomington has received a response from Monroe County Auditor Sandy Newmann about complaints Newmann's office incorrectly allocated funds from tax districts within the city. Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan says Newmann visited City Hall Tuesday to address concerns posed to her in a letter from Corporation Counsel Kevin Robling. That letter asked Newmann why money from an area on the city's west side was improperly distributed and why no one from the city had been able to meet with Newmann after concerns were raised. Kruzan says the city is fortunate the cash problem is easy to fix.

"Sandy came in yesterday to address some of the concerns we've brought up," Kruzan said. "We believe there's a $100,000 difference between the funds. We believe the money might be in the wrong accounts. Luckily those are what are called non appropriated accounts and don't have to be dealt with in the budget."

Kruzan says he also believes Democratic auditor candidate Amy Gerstman can weather the legal storm which has surrounded her candidacy and ride a wave of good will brought to Indiana by Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. The mayor made his comments on WFIU's "Ask The Mayor".
