Putting The Focus On Meditation

How do you feel before you begin a long, meticulous task? Anxious? Ambitious? Stressed?

Well, take a deep breath and say:

Ommmm ommmm ommmm...

That's right. Meditation is not only great for relaxing, but it also comes in handy when it's time to rack the brain and get down to business. Contrary to what many people think, meditation can be quite difficult. It takes a lot of mental strength to concentrate on one thing for a long period of time.

A psychological test took participants on a meditation retreat that put their attention spans to the test. Over the course of the retreat, participants repeatedly took a computer test designed to challenge their mental and visual abilities to focus.

As they gained experience in meditation, their ability to perform on these tests improved as well! The idea is that when you meditate, you are actually exercising your brain in a way that improves concentration in other daily tasks.
