We all know and celebrate the great Hoosier journalist Ernie Pyle, but why do we never hear of the great Hoosier journalist Janet Flanner? Author Dan Wakefield and saxophonist Sophie Faught will explore through stories and music of the life of this extraordinary writer. For fifty years, Flanner wrote “Letter from Paris” for The New Yorker under the pen name “Genet,” covering the Nuremberg Trials and the Suez Crisis, and writing a profile of Hitler in 1936.

This show was recorded live at Bloomington’s Blockhouse Bar in August, and features special guest Rai Peterson, along with a house band playing Paris swing from the 1920s.

Aaron Cain hosts Morning Music weekdays from nine to noon, and is WFIU’s Music Director.
