Today, still an active performer Chris Smith is a professor at Texas Tech. Back in 1988 he and a fellow guitarist from IU's Jazz Studies program were drafted to lead the twin electric bands for IU's celebration of Leonard Bernstein's 70 th birthday here in the Musical Arts Center and then at Tanglewood.
