In this month’s special Uncle Dan and Sophie Jam, Dan Wakefield and Sophie Faught talk about the mentors who inspired them to embark upon their professional creative journeys. Dan recalls his work in high school in the shadow of a sportswriter for the Indianapolis News, and the thrill of garnering his first byline in the Star. Sophie remembers early encouragement from a University of Indianapolis jazz teacher, and then from IU Jazz Studies legend David Baker. And, Dan and Sophie are joined onstage by another mentor of Sophie’s, pianist Steve Allee. The show was recorded live before an audience at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis.

Aaron Cain hosts Morning Music weekdays from nine to noon, and is WFIU’s Music Director.
