Local Singer Wins 2009 Grieg Competition

The 2009 Grieg Festival Young Artists Competition was held at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida in January.  Sixteen individuals under 32 years-old were chosen to compete in the semi-finals categories of violin, piano and voice.

Baritone Alan Dunbar, a doctoral student at the Jacobs School of Music, was awarded 1st place in the vocal category and was also named Grand Prize Winner of the competition. As WFIU's David Wood found out, Dunbar has an interesting history with Grieg, including how he was turned on to the Norwegian composer.
