Jacobs Legacy: Voice follows the studies of notable alumni of the voice department through recordings from their time as students at the IU Jacobs School of Music. The voice department has produced numerous singers that have gone on to lead prolific careers and perform on the most prestigious stages in the world. The Musical Arts Center at the Jacobs School of Music boasts the largest collegiate opera stage in the country, on par with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Currently, the Jacobs School produces five fully staged operas a year. These operas provide professional training for voice students at each degree level, valuable experience not possible outside of major opera companies.

The Program  is hosted by Sylvia McNair, an alumna of the voice program at Jacobs and Grammy Award winning artist. We’ll hear recordings from McNair’s time as a student, as well as Lawrence Brownlee, Jamie Barton, Kyle Ketelsen, Elizabeth Futral, Ailyn Pérez, and Angela Brown.

Jacobs Legacy: Voice is an installment of the series IUMusicArchive, a collaboration between the IU Jacobs School of Music and WFIU made possible through the support of the Wennerstrom-Phillips Fund for Classical Music.

Aaron Cain hosts Morning Music weekdays from nine to noon, and is WFIU’s Music Director.
