It intrigues me bringing American roots music—jazz, bluegrass—the stuff that seemingly has been created here, in this soil, and giving it this sort of artistic vision using the orchestra as the palette. And creating a symphony, a concerto, a tone poem, based on that kind of repertory, just like Bartók's done with Hungarian music.
Zach De Pue is concertmaster of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and a former violinist for the Philadelphia Orchestra.
He and his three violin-playing siblings have performed together as the De Pue Brothers, and he is a founding member of the chamber group Time for Three.
He has participated in many leading chamber music festivals, including Angel Fire, Saratoga, and La Jolla, as well as the Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshops at Carnegie Hall and in Jerusalem.
