IU Provost Karen Hanson

What's happened with the undergraduate body at Bloomington: Good students want to go where good students are already studying. So, as we raise the caliber of the class and the expectations for the class, they rise to meet it, and other serious students want to come to the same environment.

A faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at IU since 1976, Karen Hanson has won numerous campus and all-university teaching awards, along with a Lilly Fellowship and a number of research grants.

Her principal research interests are in the philosophy of mind, ethics, aesthetics, and American philosophy.

Hanson has published many articles and essays in these areas and is the author of The Self Imagined and a co-editor of Romantic Revolutions: Criticism and Theory.
