Photography Editor And Scholar Claude Cookman

The biggest thing that I try to do as a teacher is to connect this natural desire, this human quality of being a learner, to the subject matter that I am charged with presenting.

For more than 18 years, Claude Cookman enjoyed a career primarily as a photography editor at the Associated Press in New York, The Louisville Times, and The Miami Herald.

As associate professor at IU's School of Journalism, he teaches the history of photography, visual communications, informational graphics, and computer graphic design; and his research focuses on French magazine photojournalists.

He is author of American Photojournalism: Motivations and Meanings, among other books.
