Eduardo Brondizio is a Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University: Bloomington, where he directs the Center for the Analysis of Social-Ecological Landscapes [CASEL]. At the center, Brondizio has helped to create a research program in Environmental Anthropology.
His work focuses on understanding rural and urban populations and landscapes in the Amazon. For more than thirty years, Brondizio has studied farmers and households in Eastern Amazonia, to see how they’re interacting with everything from commodity markets, to social movements, and climate change.
Through his work, Brondizio makes the case that the Amazon is a prime example of how complex and dynamic a region can be; that landscapes are shaped by social, ecological, political, historical, and economic factors, and defy simplistic interpretations, and one-size-fits-all solutions.
