A jury has acquitted two Indianapolis police officers of excessive force for striking two women with batons during arrests at a May 2020 protest over the murder of George Floyd.

Prosecutors had charged Tyler Newby, 32, with murder, but after a one-day bench trial a Marion County judge found Newby, who is white, guilty Monday of the lesser crime of reckless homicide in Dorian Murrell’s death.

City administration, department heads and elected officials completed CEI’s three-day intensive session Dec. 1-3. Moving forward, local leaders will participate in eight monthly sessions.
