The group drafting financial recommendations for a new jail in Monroe County says the facility likely won’t be built or occupied until 2027 at the earliest.

The committee says it’s considering ways to invest in social services to reduce the number of people entering the criminal justice system.

The group’s first meeting was largely procedural and covered subjects such as when meetings will be noticed and how they’ll be led.

The commissioners' report follows months of waiting by other members of the Community Justice Response Committee.

The caucus is open to the public and will be in the auditorium of the Monroe County Public Library Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.
