Juneteenth

The university recognized the holiday three years ago, a decision made by President Pamela Whitten. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

This is the first year the City of Bloomington is officially acknowledging Juneteenth as a holiday. City offices are closed, and most employees have the day off Monday.

The City of Bloomington hosted a community event commemorating Juneteenth at Switchyard Park Saturday.
