As of July 1, family caregivers of medically complex children will no longer be able to provide attendant care. This means they have two options: transition to the Structured Family Caregiving program or stay in attendant care with someone else providing the service.

Family caregivers also said the state has not adequately addressed the concerns their organization brought in front of Governor Eric Holcomb.

In response to a $1 billion Medicaid shortfall, FSSA said family caregivers will no longer be able to provide attendant care — instead shifting to the Structured Family Caregiving program on July 1.

Jennifer Dewitt, a mother and caregiver of a medically complex child, said the recommendations would clarify the process, improve communication and address concerns around how the transition is being handled.
