IU Kelley School of Business research found another key piece that fueled the opioid epidemic is the way prescription opioids are tracked.

Overdose Lifeline distributed more than 170,000 test strips in 2023. Advocates said they are more interested in saving lives than "getting held up on those gray areas" – which is where the legality of the test strip exists in Indiana code.

The next round of opioid settlement funding distributed by the Office of the Attorney General will total $8.8 million, a portion of the roughly $925 million secured so far across various lawsuits.

The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a nationwide settlement with OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma that would shield members of the Sackler family who own the company from civil lawsuits over the toll of opioids.

Under the settlement, the Sacklers will have to get out of the opioid business altogether and contribute $4.5 billion. But they will be shielded from any future lawsuits over opioids.
