Gov. Eric Holcomb celebrated the decrease and attributed it to investments in the availability of residential treatment and expanded harm reduction resources to address overdoses throughout the state.

The city, like the rest of the state, has been ravaged by fentanyl in recent years.

The provisional report, released Wednesday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, estimates 2,268 Hoosiers died of drug overdoses last year, up from an estimated 1,704 overdose deaths in 2019.
