Approximately 700 geese, primarily snow geese, have recently been found dead in western Gibson County. More than 100,000 snow geese currently are present there.

This designation, under the World Organization for Animal Health’s listing, restores international trading of Indiana poultry products, according to a press release from the Indiana State Board of Animal Health.

Public health officials are investigating outbreaks of salmonella linked to backyard poultry and have identified more than 200 cases so far this year, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So far this year, 24 states have found cases of bird flu affecting chickens, turkeys and ducks.
