Under current law, courts can order fathers to pay for half of expenses related to medical needs surrounding childbirth – prenatal and postnatal care, hospitalization and delivery. House Bill 1009 expands the list.

Right now, biological fathers can be ordered to pay 50 percent of the costs of prenatal care, delivery and hospitalization, and postnatal care.

House Bill 1009 would allow courts to order fathers to pay for more expenses than before.
