The Ellettsville Town Council is extending funding to allow Rural Transit to continue normal service in Monroe County through year’s end.

The Ellettsville Town Council is offering to help fund Rural Transit past the end of March.

The Ellettsville Town Council says it will help Monroe County fund Rural Transit for part of 2024 to ensure riders can receive regular service in the immediate future.

Monroe County and the Town of Ellettsville are collaborating to ensure Rural Transit can continue to provide certain trips in 2024.

The report also revealed that systems are serving more people but logging fewer miles, and that urban systems are more cost-efficient.

An ordinance passed Wednesday lays the groundwork for BT to expand service beyond Bloomington's city limits.

The 2020 Census reestablished what the Federal Transit Administration considers an urbanized area, making it so that Rural Transit can't service parts of the county starting in 2024.

The money is allocated to city and county systems – where these local groups can then give the funding to nonprofit organizations or groups that run local transit systems and programs.
