Barnebey Woods holds significant ecological importance because it connects to the Owen-Putnam State Forest, forming part of a 7.5-mile protected corridor.

The areas, named Oliver and John Allen England nature preserve, will serve as two newly constructed wetland habitats for local plant and animal species.

This 31-acre preserve called Fix-Stoelting, is part of a larger project Sycamore Land Trust has been working on called the Bean Blossom Creek Conservation.
