Eviction courts are “insane” as new and old filings pile up

An estimated 64,000 eviction cases have been filed in the state since the start of the pandemic, with roughly 6,000 filed just since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention moratorium was struck down in August.

As of Aug. 4, the program has received 791 requests for mediation. Only 48 cases have actually been facilitated and just 26 of those resulted in a tenant staying in their property.
