Former Indiana congressman Lee Hamilton can add the Patriot Award to his list of honors and accomplishments.
The Bipartisan Policy Center gave him the award Tuesday night on the 17 th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Hamilton served as vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission.
In a taped address, Hamilton thanked the center for continuing to encourage collaboration and he talked about ongoing security threats since 9/11.
“We have to continue to use force, to attack and eliminate terrorists. We have to continue and do even a better job of protecting our homeland where our record has been very good indeed," Hamilton said. "But new threats to our security continue to emerge.”
This is the third year for the Patriot Award. Other recipients include former Gov. Thomas Kean of New Jersey, Rep. Sam Johnson of Texas, Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, and former Vice President Joe Biden.
