An eastern Indiana shopping mall damaged by a June tornado is set to reopen less than three weeks after that storm.
The June 15 tornado swept Richmond Mall with winds of up to 85 mph, damaging the 391,000-square-foot mall and many of its stores.
But the Palladium-Item reports that the mall's owner, Augusta, Georgia-based Hull Property Group, says the mall's interior and many of those stores will reopen Tuesday, although repairs continue on some stores.
A statement by the company credits the city of Richmond and "countless others" for helping the mall "to reopen so quickly after such a powerful storm."
The mall's JC Penney and Office Max stores were most heavily damaged by the tornado. They remain closed due to ongoing repair work.
