The Monroe County Board of Health had only one participant in its public hearing on the board’s public comment policy.
The board is constructing an official public comment policy, which it has never had. The second draft of the policy was up for discussion Monday night, and the board held the meeting at the county courthouse to accommodate what it believed would be a large turnout.
Only one person, Ernie Frazo, commented.
Frazo appeared online and asked the board to consider allowing two comment sections for its public meetings: one on agenda items and one for items not on the agenda. That is how many boards and commissions throughout Bloomington and Monroe County conduct meetings.
Aurora DiOrio, the county health board president, said the board appreciates the public’s help with the process.
“We've had several members of the public send us emails and I've sent them around to all the board members and they've been really interesting and positive and helpful and we appreciate all the other sets of eyes on this,” she said.
Monday night’s meeting ended after 13 minutes.
The board plans to present an updated public comment policy at its regular meeting Thursday afternoon.
