A Bloomington bookstore that was in danger of closing is getting a new lease for another year.
The owners of Caveat Emptor said earlier this year it seemed unlikely the landlords would renew the store’s lease this fall because the downtown location was becoming too expensive.
But store owner Eric Brown says a couple of weeks ago he got the good news that the store would be able to stay on the downtown square for another year.
“I’m optimistic because we’ve had three and now four years… this place was going to be gone," he says. "This was 30 days away from closing forever, so I consider every day we’re open a victory.”
Brown says if rent continues to rise, he may look into crowdfunding options to keep the store open.
Brown says all revenue for the store goes to the lease and fees leaving nothing for advertising.
