A Printpack official says some workers at the company's Greensburg factory will move to its Bloomington operation when the Greensburg plant ceases production in September of 2011. Printpack Vice President of Technology and Support Terry Harper said about 150 workers will be laid off at end of January while the remaining 70 will help to finish orders and prepare the plant for its closing.
"The market's been flat over the last 18, 20-some months and what we thought we were going to get in the way of new business just hasn't materialized so, the reason we've decided to close that plant is we've ended up with way too much capacity," Harper said.
Harper said qualified employees at the Greensburg plant have the potential to be relocated to one of more than twenty plants in the United States. The Bloomington plant has already hired more employees, and has a current head count of about 160. Printpack plans to hire six or seven new employees to work in warehousing there in the next few months.
