Swastikas, 'KKK' Painted Around Bloomington

The city of Bloomington says residents and city employees discovered four instances of racially-offensive vandalism at three locations Friday morning.

According to the city, the messages included "KKK" and images of swastikas and were discovered at the E. 10th Street underpass, Unitarian Universalist Church and the intersection of College Mall and Sare roads. City employees quickly painted over the messages.

"Bloomington remains steadfast in its commitment to inclusivity," Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton said in a statement. "We are resolved to be a community that values each of its residents. It doesn't matter where they were born, how long they have lived here, what god they choose to worship - or not worship - or the color of their skin, they belong here. Everyone is welcome, period."

Similar messages appeared along the B-Line trail last November.
