A request from health officials for no large public gatherings has led Indiana’s Roman Catholic bishops to call off all public Sunday and weekday masses starting Wednesday until further notice.
“Out of an abundance of caution, parishes and chapels, including perpetual adoration chapels, should remain closed until further notice,” the Archdiocese of Indianapolis said in a statement issued Tuesday. “Decisions about the celebrations during Holy Week and beyond will be made in the coming days.”
Instead of going to mass, the Archdiocese recommends people “make an act of Spiritual Communion,” read the Bible or pray the rosary.
The statement also says masses will soon be available to stream online at www.archindy.org.
The St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington will livestream its Sunday 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. masses on its Facebook page. Weekday masses will also be available.
