IU Lecturer Helping Connect Educators With E-Learning Resources

An IU lecturer is at the center of a group hoping to help college and university educators transition from face to face learning to online coursework.

The Spring 2020 Online Learning Collective was founded last week when institutions began ceasing face-to-face instruction as a way to combat the spread of COVID-19. Now, the group has more than 15,000 members and continues to grow.

Erika Lee is one of the group’s founders, and a senior lecturer in Informatics at Indiana University. She says the transition can be difficult, but believes educators and students alike will persevere.

“I think with Facebook groups like the one that I’m a part of and resources that our teaching and learning center has given us is going to work," she says. "We’re going to make it through this time.”

Lee says she believes this could be the moment that breeds innovation in education and says online instruction could become more common in the near future.
