The IU Bloomington Hospital released a statement tonight that a patient was being treated there for COVID-19. The hospital says the patient was seen in the emergency department and the staff followed all the proper procedures.
“Our highly-skilled professionals were calm and confident in their ability to provide excellent care. They demonstrated that preparation and commitment to following recommended best practices supports a safe healing environment for everyone: patients, visitors and team members,” said IU Health South Central Region President Brian Shockney in the statement. “We acknowledge the concerns which now exist in our community and are committed to respond to the challenges and uncertainties of this unprecedented time.”
The patient remains hospitalized.
The Monroe County Health administrator says the county has no confirmed cases of COVID-19.
"Despite recent news reports, Monroe County has no confirmed cases of COVID-19," says Penny Caudill, Monroe County Health administrator.

The State Department of Health reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, including one in Owen County.
Caudill says the health department is committed to transparency and will keep the community informed by sharing information as it gets it.
In a statement last week, Caudill noted the limited ability to test for the virus. She wrote, "We are hopeful this situation will be resolved soon and testing will become more readily available."
The State Department of Health reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, including one in Owen County.
Indiana's State Health Commissioner said Friday there are likely tens of thousands of Hoosiers infected with COVID-19, even though limited available tests have only confirmed 56 such cases as of March 19.
