Early Campaign Ads Could Increase Voter Turnout In November

Political ads for the general election in November are already popping up, just days after Indiana's primary election Tuesday.

On Wednesday, ads produced by the Hillary campaign took aim at Donald Trump. And Trump has been previewing his jabs at Clinton since before Senator Ted Cruz dropped out of the race.

Indiana University Political Science professor Ted Carmines says there's some risk for political burnout among voters when ads are released so early.

Carmines says the intensified exposure to political issues and candidates could impact what happens in November.

"I think it does have some impact, and I think it does increase, marginally, voter turnout," Carmines says. "I think we're going to see a lot of ads in this state. The presidential, congressional, senatorial, and gubernatorial level."

Both gubernatorial candidates have released ads since Tuesday. John Gregg released his ad on Wednesday, and incumbent Governor Mike Pence released an ad Thursday.

The general election is on November 8, just over 6 months away.
