The Indiana University Foundation plans to use the former Republic Newspaper building in Columbus as the site of its Masters of Architecture degree program.
Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop joined IU President Michael McRobbie at Monday's announcement.
Lienhoop says he's happy the historic building is being preserved.
"Downtown Columbus is small enough that this kind of facility and the number of people that we're talking about here will have a noticeable effect, and so we're pretty excited to get them started," he says.
Work will begin to prepare the building in August with courses planned to start in the fall semester.
The program will be named in honor of J. Irwin Miller, who grew up in Columbus and had a hand in the development of the city as a center of modern architecture.
