The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life defines on its website cease and desist as “an interim measure placed upon certain aspects of chapter operations when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation.”
Carney said the university is following “normal procedures” as they investigate these situations.
IU previously placed Sigma Alpha Mu on cease and desist on Oct. 26 for violating public health regulations and restrictions.
