The Indiana Department of Health has recorded the 99 th and 100 th coronavirus-related death in Monroe County.
In December, the county documented 45 COVID-19 deaths — more than triple the number of any other month. Only four days throughout the month didn’t experience a virus-related death, yet Monroe County remained one of five counties in Indiana with the lowest metric score measuring the severity of the pandemic. Along with two new deaths, IDOH reported 117 new Monroe County cases, totaling 8,371 cases and 100 deaths since the pandemic began.
Monroe County has administered 227,761 tests on 72,409 with a 9.5% seven-day positivity rate.

Across the state, the IDOH on Wednesday reported 6,214 new cases and 80 new deaths, increasing state totals to 539,229 cases and 8,371 deaths. Indiana has administered nearly 5.9 million tests on 2.6 million Hoosiers with a seven-day positivity rate of 16.3%, which has steadily increased from 13.4% on Dec. 23.
Indiana has 2,782 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus, and COVID-19 patients occupy 27.4% of ICU beds, with 22.6% of beds still available.
