Coroner Joani Shields wrote in an email that she has ruled the preliminary manner of death to be manual strangulation and the preliminary cause of death as homicide.
Shields denied reports that the victim's legs had been cut off and added that Michael had suffered burn injuries in the fire.
Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo said in an email that there is an active homicide investigation underway concerning the incident. He asks that anyone with information or who may have witnessed "suspicious activity" at the apartment on Jan. 28 contact Detective Chris Scott at (812) 349-3382.
