A winter storm warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service is predicting heavy snowfall in the Bloomington area starting late Sunday.
The NWS expects total snow accumulations of eight to 11 inches in portions of central, east central, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Indiana.
The snow is expected to begin about 7 p.m. Sunday and continue until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
“Travel will be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact Monday evening commute. Blowing snow will lead to higher drifts of snow,” the NWS said.
The NWS expects around two inches of snow Sunday evening with the heaviest snow falling Monday from 4 p.m. until midnight.
During heavier periods the NWS expects snowfall rates of an inch an hour at times.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said it would begin patrolling highways by 8 p.m. Sunday and remain active through the storm.
"Keep in mind, plow trucks generally travel about 25 to 30 miles per hour and it takes between two to three hours to complete a snow route," it said.
"Motorists are urged to stay off the roads during the winter storm if possible, to give plow drivers plenty of room to safely clear snow and ice."
