Crews have contained a Friday morning fire at Hoosier Hills Marina on Patoka Lake that damaged at least 20 boats.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources Cpl. Joe Haywood said the blaze started before 9 a.m. and spread to 11 boats. At least 10 other boats sustained related damage.

Haywood said no one was injured.

"The marina owner was able to get a couple boats pushed out to the ends that created fire breaks, we could have lost more boats than we did," said Haywood.

The DNR, Indiana State Fire Marshal, Indiana Dept. of Environmental Management and several local fire departments were among those responding to the fire.

Haywood said now that the fire has been contained, the focus moves to containing waste from the damaged boats and investigating the cause of the fire.

"The ramps are frozen with ice, we're trying to get a backhoe, or a tractor in here to get them cleared off," said Haywood.

All of the damaged or destroyed boats were moored at Dock A.  The marina's owner is contacting individuals who own the boats that were affected by the fire.
