COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to increase with 1,138 Hoosiers hospitalized due to the virus.

The Indiana Department of Health reported 44 new deaths across the state Tuesday, pushing Indiana passed the 12,000-death mark.

Indiana also announced 716 new cases of COVID-19, increasing state totals to 657,037 cases and 12,025 deaths. The state continues to average fewer than 1,000 new cases and about 20 deaths every day, similar to numbers reported in the fall.

Indiana has administered nearly 7.8 million tests on more than 3 million Hoosiers with a seven-day positivity rate of 4.1%.

The IDOH’s hospital dashboard shows 873 Hoosiers hospitalized due to the virus. COVID-19 patients occupy 7.4% of the state’s ICU beds while 38.7% remain available. Less than 3% of Indiana’s ventilators are in use by patients with the virus.

More than 905,000 Hoosiers have received their first dose of the vaccine, while 459,603 Hoosiers — about 6.8% of the state’s population — have been fully vaccinated.
