Monroe County’s IDOH COVID-19 Score Drops To Blue

The Indiana Department of Health’s updated COVID-19 county metric map ranks 39 counties — including Monroe County — in the lowest category for viral spread.

Monroe County received a score of 0.5, which lands the county in the blue classification. As of Wednesday, the IDOH reported 88 weekly cases per 100,000 residents in the county and positivity rate less than 5%. Monroe County documented Wednesday 19 new cases, increasing the county total to 10,267 cases. The death toll remained at 158.

The county has administered 336,546 tests on more than 80,400 a seven-day positivity rate of 0.7%.

The IDOH’s hospital census shows 31 residents in the area hospitalized due to the virus. COVID-19 patients occupy 1% of the district’s ICU beds while 62.5% remain available. None of the area’s 111 ventilators are in use by patients with the virus.

Nearly 18,000 Monroe County residents have received their first dose of the vaccine, while 10,668 Hoosiers — about 7.2% of the county’s population — have been fully vaccinated.

Across Indiana, the IDOH reported 1,019 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 new deaths, increasing the state totals to 658,043 cases and 12,039 deaths. This is only the third day during the past week the health department reported more than 1,000 cases in a single day.

After administering more than 7.8 million tests on more than 3.09 million Hoosiers, Indiana has a seven-day positivity rate of 4.1%. The positivity rate has not changed for three days.

According to the IDOH, 886 Indiana residents are hospitalized due to COVID-19, and patients with the virus occupy 7.3% of ICU beds. More than 36% of ICU beds in the state remain available, along with more than 80% of the state’s ventilators.

Nearly 921,000 Hoosiers have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 482,564 residents — about 7.1% of the state — have received both doses.
