The pool of Hoosiers who can get the COVID-19 vaccine continued to grow larger Tuesday when the state lowered the age requirement from 60 to 55 years old.
IU Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dan Handel said several vulnerable populations have been added to the list as well.
In an interview, he said people who have had solid organ transplants, are on dialysis, have sickle cell disease or are in treatment for many cancers now are eligible to be vaccinated. So are people with Down Syndrome.

He said those who have one of those conditions can ask their primary care doctor for help getting registered. He said IU Health is looking for a systematic way to reach out to these vulnerable populations as well.
IU Health South Central Region, which includes in Bloomington, Bedford and Paoli, has vaccinated more than 40,000 patients as of Tuesday.
