The Indiana baseball team’s home opener was postponed today, shortly before the first pitch, because Hoosier head coach Jeff Mercer tested positive for COVID-19.

Mercer took an antigen test this morning and the result was confirmed with a PCR test.

"I'm experiencing minor symptoms and will now enter my 10-day isolation period. I look forward to communicating with the team during my absence and rejoining the team when it's safe to do so," Mercer said in a press release.

The University said the rest of the team and coaching staff will undergo further testing.

Indiana was scheduled to play Penn State in a doubleheader Friday, then single games on Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the weekend schedule is under review.
