Bloomington Transit is now servicing the new IU Regional Academic Health Center via Route 10 East.
Zac Huneck, planning and special projects manager for Bloomington Transit, said the new route connects the hospital to the downtown transit center.
“It’s not a direct path- there is an extension along the south side of campus … One of the primary goals we wanted to do was to try and improve some connectivity through the IU campus.”
Huneck said Route 10 East is temporary until Bloomington Transit implements system-wide service changes in summer 2022. These changes were recommended in a 2019 Route Optimization Study.
Beginning next summer, Route 90 will be a combination of the existing routes 3 East, 8, 9 and 10 East with service to major locations such as College Mall, Eastland Plaza, and the new hospital.
“Effectively what that does is combines the hours we devote to those three separate routes and puts them all into one more consistent, high frequency loop route that runs every 15 minutes,” he said.
The hospital opened Dec. 5, and Huneck said about 50-60 people ride the 10 East route per day. He expects ridership to increase when students return in January.
