You might have noticed construction on Liberty Drive near Menards and Goodwill on Bloomington’s west side.

That’s because a company that owns several auto dealerships in the city is building another one.

Autovest plans to build a new Kia dealership at 701 S. Liberty Drive, according to Evan Martin, vice president of the Community Cars Auto Group.

“We're really just in the startup phase of the construction,” Martin said. “So, we're moving some dirt around — but we should be seeing significant progress here relatively soon. We’re hoping, if all things work out well, the project takes about a year to complete.”

The 21,000-square-foot structure will sit on nine acres near Menards and Goodwill. Martin said it will create new jobs and improve the customer experience.

It will also offer more space than the current Kia dealership on South Walnut Street owned by Autovest.

“We're constrained by the size of what we currently have,” Martin said. “We only have five bays to fix cars in, (whereas) the new facility will have approximately 13 bays. So, we'll have much more capacity to handle customer needs.”

Autovest also owns the Chrysler, Ford and Nissan dealerships on South Walnut Street.

Martin said a separate 6,300-square-foot building is also planned for the Liberty Drive site. Its function will be related to the dealership, but it’s unclear exactly what it will be used for.
