Monroe County Community School Corporation board members appointed Dr. Markay Winston, current deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction, as interim superintendent of schools Tuesday.

She will serve as interim superintendent starting this July until June 2025, replacing Jeff Hauswald as superintendent. The board bought out his contract last month.

“Thank you all for the trust and faith that you clearly have placed in me to serve our most valuable community assets, our children,” Winston said.

Winston has been with the MCCSC since 2017. She has a doctorate from the University of Cincinnati and before coming to Bloomington worked in administrative roles with the Chicago Public Schools and the Cincinnati Public Schools.

At the meeting, the MCCSC board also approved the Childs-Templeton merger.
