On Friday, February 27th at 12:00 p.m., the Black Film Center & Archive and University Collections at McCalla will host an educational event surrounding its exhibition, By Their Own Hands: The Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame. We will examine the immeasurable effect of The Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame (BFHFI), an organization founded in Oakland, California in 1974 to honor Black filmmakers, actors, and myriad other performers.

BFHFI inductee, Denise Nicholas will be in attendance! You may recognize her as Liz McIntyre in the show Room 222 (1969-1974), Michelle in Blacula (William Crain, 1972), or Beth Foster in Let’s Do It Again (Sidney Poitier, 1975). Nicholas is also an activist and award-winning writer, who recently released her memoir titled, Finding Home.
