The Avian Flu In Dubois County

Last Friday, the USDA confirmed the first case in an outbreak of avian influenza in Dubois County.

The virus has affected at least ten commercial poultry farms. In an effort to control the spread of the avian flu, over 400,000 birds have been killed.

Although the outbreak appears to have stopped, the chickens will be monitored throughout the next three weeks.

This week on  Noon Edition, we'll discuss the avian flu and how agencies are combating the virus. What effects will the outbreak have on the poultry industry and the farmers who make their living by raising the birds.

Join hosts Bob Zaltsberg and Sara Wittmeyer as they discuss the avian flu outbreak in Dubois County.

Our guests:

Luis Santiago, Purdue Extension Educator, Daviess County

Denise Derrer, Indiana State Board of Animal Health

Samantha Horton, Reporter Covering Dubois County, WNIN

Noon Edition airs every Friday at 12 p.m.
