IHCDA Releases 2011 Numbers For Indiana Homeless

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority recently released the statewide findings from a study on homelessness earlier this year. In January, 2011, the Point-in-Time Count found that during the last week of that month, over six thousand individuals throughout Indiana's ninety-two counties were homeless. Over sixteen percent of those counted were women fleeing domestic violence, and nearly thirty percent suffered from a chronic addiction.

This week on Noon Edition, we'll sit down with Jim Riley of the New Hope Family Shelter, Forrest Gilmore, director of the Shalom Center, and Lori Dimick, Homeless Program Manager at the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. We'll discuss what  we can do to address the complicated issue of homelessness.

You can join the conversation by calling in at 855-0811 or 1-877-285-WFIU, or you can join a live chat online: Click Here. Noon Edition airs Fridays at 12:06.
